Audience Feedback
1) Chose one aspect of film language that has been used especially well in this movie and say why:
The film language which appealed most to the other students the title sequence. They found this an unsual way to display them and thought that it related back to the 'poison pen' letters which was the theme of our thriller. They also enjoyed the sound and voice over - 'it created an eerie atmosphere along with the tense soundtrack'. Others commented on our wide range of camera angles and accurate match-cuts which gave the opening more variety and made it visually interesting to view.
2) Choose one aspect of film language that could be improved in this movie and explain how?
Our audience felt that the 'white fades' into our title sequence was used too often. After a while, the eerie atmosphere the titles created lost its affect as it was always introduced by the same white fade in. This could have been improved by using another transition.
3) Can you recognise any sterotypes in this movie?
Our audience said that our film displayed no specific stereotype with it's characters, it contrasted with the usual male villains as all the characters were female, which they found was a great twist on the average thriller. They felt that the idea of the letter writing and unanswered phone calls were stereotypical to other thriller/mystery films - which is where we got out ideas from especially the film 'Se7en'.
4) Can you think of any intertexual references with any other movies when you watch this movie? Explain.
'Se7en' - through the close-ups of creating the letters; the character in 'Se7en' extreme close-ups of them creating their scrapbook
'I know what you did last summer' - the idea that there is a secret about and the character to whom it involves is unaware that others know
5)Who do you think would be the audience for this movie?
Our audience said that the audience suitable for this movie would be 16 + (adults mainly) this is because it involves mystery which may interest an adult more and involves threatening behaviour which would not be suitable for children.
6) 5 words which best describe this film:
- Intriguing
- Mysterious
- Tension building
- Suspense
- Disturbing
7) What sort of institution do you think would release this movie?
Our audience thought that the institution that would release our movie were 'Paramount' or 'WT2', however, I would agree with those who said 'WT2' as it is a british film and of a low budget.
The feedback from our audience has helped us to evaluate where we went right and wrong. From the feedback we discovered that many enjoyed our title sequence but disliked the continuous dissolving transitions. This will help us in the future, and if we were to take on this project again, to think thoroughly about what to put in the film depending on our audience.
