Skills Audit: creation of titles

In the opening of our thriller ‘pen friends’,we used a slightly different method to create our titles. We started off by using LIVE TYPE. We used a different font and colours for each of the letters so it looked like the threatening letters in our thriller opening. We then put a plain moving gray background. Because the font and the colours of the letters the back ground had to be quite simple.

We wasn’t completely satisfied with these titles so we decided to use another method to create them. Instead we got a news paper and cut out different letters, we then used the letters to spell out the titles e.g. edited by Mica Taylor. We placed this on a plain piece of paper and positioned the camera directly above it. We used a fan to blow away the letters we recorded this. We uploaded all the footage onto Final Cut Pro. We then reversed each of the shots so the letters were coming back onto the screen.

We felt these titles were more effective and they looked a lot better than the ones we created on LIVE TYPE. The creation of these titles took a lot longer than I thought they would of but the end result was good so it was worth it.
